One really insightful assessment I often share not only with clients but friends as well is the Big Five Personality Test. This evidence-based framework explores five key traits that shape how we experience life:
1️⃣ Openness – How curious and imaginative are you?
2️⃣ Conscientiousness – How organized and dependable?
3️⃣ Extraversion – How outgoing and energetic?
4️⃣ Agreeableness – How compassionate and cooperative?
5️⃣ Neuroticism – How emotionally reactive are you?
Understanding your unique makeup is like holding up a mirror to your inner world. It holds the power to reveal patterns, such as how you move through relationships, respond to stress, and make meaning of your experiences.
And this kind of awareness is not just psychological. It is actually deeply spiritual.
The Qur’an invites us into this reflection:
“And in yourselves—will you not see?” (51:21)
When you begin to notice yourself with honesty and compassion, something shifts. You start to recognize your needs, your limits, your tendencies… and through that, your dependence on Allah. It is actually something so profound when we stop to reflect on it.
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:
“The intelligent one is the one who holds himself accountable and works for what comes after death.”
Self-awareness, then, is not about judgment. It’s about accountability, growth, and returning to alignment.
You may have also heard the prophetic saying, “Whoever knows himself knows his Lord.” This has always resonated with me that introspection truly has the potential for deeper spiritual connection.
So getting to know yourself is the first step toward deeper self-awareness. And by the way, self-awareness isn’t just self-improvement. I believe it is so much more. It can be a journey of the soul.
So check out that quiz and share it with others—you might be surprised what you come to understand about each other!
Here’s mine:
Openness – 96
Conscientiousness – 71
Extraversion – 69
Agreeableness – 94
Neuroticism – 21
